What to Expect from KMI
What to wear
Comfortable body hugging underwear, brief sports apparel or bathers. For women two piece apparel works best as the mid section is constantly addressed.
Body Reading (developed for KMI)
If the client feels at enough at ease with the KMI practitioner, each session starts with body reading which involves standing in front of the practitioner to determine how your bones line up with gravity. Therefore, what you wear needs to be brief enough to show your hip bones, abdominal region, and outline of rib cage and comfortable enough for you to stand relaxed in front of the practitioner. This helps the practitioner to see restrictions that may have caused bends, tilts and rotations as each of our bodies develop in a personal way of relating with gravity over the years.
The brief outline of the Twelve Sessions
The following gives you a brief outline of what each session involves. A shorter series of sessions can also be beneficial if there is a time constraint. Body reading and individual concerns will determine other areas that need to be addressed in each session and the following is only an outline. The method looks at changing overall structure and involves releasing fascia (connective tissue or fabric) in the entire body comprehensively in 12 sessions.
If you feel uncomfortable during the treatment either about experiencing pain or concerned about the areas the session proposes to work please inform me and the session can be modified. Although I will have a good idea of where your pain threshold is, just say “stop” at any time if the treatment has gone past your threshold.
First 4 sessions are designed to release the superficial layers:
1st session: Lifting the superficial front line
This session will probably be different to any type of treatment you have experienced before. Unless there is a strong individual concern that needs to be addressed, it involves making contact and lifting the front of the feet, up the shins, into the front of the thighs to the front of the hip bones. The session continues from the lower abdominal region near the pubic bone up the sternum then towards the front of the neck. The rib cage is opened but no contact made with breast tissue on female clients. The front of the arm pits will also be addressed.
2nd session: Bringing down the Superficial Back Line
This session covers the area from the back of the scalp and down each side of the spine. There will be deep contact made into the back side muscles to release the ligament from the sacrum(base of the spine) to the top of the femur (thigh bone). The hamstring, calf muscles, and bottom of the feet are also addressed.
3rd session: Spreading the Lateral Line
The entire side of the body from your ankles and up as close to the armpit as you feel comfortable and the side of the neck will be contacted
4th session: Releasing the Spiral Line
This session will readdress areas covered in the first 3 sessions, however the session will work across the body to release any patterns which may be twisting the body in any way.
The next 4 sessions are designed to release the often sensitive core muscles. The core muscles are not only in the abdominal area but cover deep muscles close to the bone all over the body.
5th 6th and 7th Session Releasing the Deep Front Line
For the 5th session, ensure appropriate underwear is worn as this session covers the sensitive areas of the entire inner leg from the instep under the feet up to the attachments of inner thigh muscles at the pelvis. This session can be very sensitive for some clients as it has quite close proximity to the genital area. In the 6th and 7th session will continue with the deeper layers up the body addressing the hip flexors and the diaphragm. If you have any concerns about receiving any treatment, please ask your practitioner to explain fully how the session will work and point out the areas addressed. If you still feel anxious the session will be modified at any time to ensure you are comfortable about where contact on your body is made.
8th Session: Releasing the Face and Neck
This session will most likely be different to anything you have received before. It involves the practitioner working inside the mouth and nose using a surgeon's glove to ensure there are no health risks. It must be emphasised that this session is entirely optional although highly recommended due to benefits of completing the release of as much of the body as possible to contribute to the balance of the head over the torso. Please make your practitioner aware of any injuries you have to your nose or dental concerns. The session can also be modified if you feel the areas are too sensitive to touch either before or during the treatment.
9th to 12th Sessions
These sessions are the integrating sessions which readdress many areas already covered but more movement will be used to help make the body more connected. The 11th session also involves a session entirely for the arms.
Feelings and Emotions
It is normal to feel changes in emotions during or after the treatments. Often fixed patterns in the physical body can be linked knowingly or unknowingly to events or traumas in the past and your present life or even worries about the future. If you allow the emotions to come freely it may help you overcome obstacles in your life that could also be linked to the physical discomfort. If these emotions do not pass and feel unresolved please discuss with your practitioner about alternative help
